Arnold Helgason

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Arnold Helgason on November 27, 2010. He was predeceased by his mother Dodi in 1967, father Beggi in 1974, brother Clarence in 1977 and sister Dorothy Waller in 1987. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Elise, children Kurt (Kathy) of Nanaimo, Kim (Steve) of Port Sydney, Ontario, Dwayne (Marsella) of Athabasca, Alberta, Wade (Trish) of Fort McMurray, Alberta, grandchildren Christopher, Sarah, Eric, Ashley, Jordie, Jada, Damon, Hailey, Selena, Riley, Turner, sisters Benna Martin and Joan Cockerill.

Arnold was born on October 22, 1931 in Gimli, Manitoba. He came to the Fort McMurray area in his early 20's as a commercial fisherman with McGinnis Fisheries. He met his wife to be, Elise in 1956. Once married they settled in Fort McMurray. 

He worked for NTCL and later for BA Oil. He then started with GCOS in its inception in 1967. He stayed with the company, now known as Suncor, until his retirement in 1986.

Arnold and Elise then moved to Nanaimo, BC, where they enjoyed his retirement. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, November 27, 2010.

As per his wishes, there will be no service. Donations in memory of Arnold may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
